A Florida undercover operation targeting child predators resulted in 19 arrests, including a 68-year-old Santa Claus impersonator who allegedly offered $200 to sexually assault a 13-year-old girl. The suspects face more than 90 combined criminal charges ranging from human trafficking to attempted sexual battery on minors.
Santa Among Those Caught in Sting
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd announced the arrests following an extensive undercover investigation. The operation caught individuals who believed they were communicating with children or their guardians online. Among those arrested was a local Santa impersonator who allegedly told an undercover detective posing as a father that he would pay to have sex with the man’s 13-year-old daughter. “Speaking of believing, we even arrested Santa Claus during this undercover operation,” Sheriff Judd stated during a press conference.
Pattern of Predatory Behavior
Sheriff Judd expressed continued shock at the number of suspects willing to travel to meet what they believed were children. “It never ceases to amaze us how many suspects travel to have sex with who they believe are children, especially here in Polk County where we proactively investigate and arrest those who prey on children,” he explained. The arrested individuals face serious felony charges including human trafficking, traveling to meet a minor, and attempted lewd or lascivious battery. Many suspects allegedly engaged in explicit conversations with undercover officers, believing they were arranging encounters with minors or negotiating with parents.
Ongoing Fight Against Predators
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has earned a reputation for aggressive pursuit of child predators through regular undercover operations. This latest sting demonstrates law enforcement’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children from sexual exploitation. The arrests send a clear message to potential offenders that authorities actively monitor online spaces where predators attempt to target children. All 19 suspects now face prosecution on multiple felony counts that could result in decades of prison time if convicted. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue examining evidence seized during the operation.
Protecting Children Online
This case highlights the persistent threat children face from online predators who use the internet to identify and groom potential victims. Law enforcement agencies across Florida have intensified efforts to identify and arrest individuals who attempt to exploit children through digital platforms. Parents are urged to monitor their children’s online activities and maintain open communication about internet safety. The successful operation demonstrates that predators who believe they can hide behind screens will face serious consequences when caught attempting to harm children.
